Value Plus Valuheart Heartworm Tablets

User Rating
4 / 5

Valuheart Heartworm Tablets are an affordable and effective monthly heartworm prevention for dogs. Valuheart eliminates the tissue stages of heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis) that infects the dog in the month before treatment. Heartworm larvae acquired up to four months prior to the initiation of Valuheart will be controlled when monthly treatment with Valuheart is continued for twelve months. Valuheart Heartworm Tablets have a wide margin of safety for dogs of all breeds, including stud dogs, breeding bitches and puppies 6 weeks of age and older.

Valuheart contains Ivermectin, the same active ingredient as Heartgard. This generic provides the same protection against heartworm disease, at a fraction of the price of the big name brands.

Valuheart Heartworm Tablets for Dogs

Not for use in dogs less than six weeks of age. A mild hypersensitivity reaction, presumably due to dead or dying microfilariae, and particularly involving transient diarrhoea, has been observed in clinical trials after treatment of some dogs that have circulating microfilariae. It is recommended that you consult a veterinarian if the dog has not previously been on heartworm prevention medication or if there has been a lapse in the preventive program. All dogs should be tested by a veterinarian and be free of canine heartworm, adults and microfilariae before using this product. Valuheart Heartworm Tablets are not effective against adult heartworms.

Directions for use: Give one tablet for the appropriate weight range of your dog orally at monthly intervals. Tablets may be halved for more accurate dosing if required. Tablets may be given by adding to food, offering by hand, or by wrapping in food.

The initial dose of Valuheart must be given within one month of the first exposure to mosquitoes. However, they also control heartworm infection when treatment is initiated up to four months after exposure to infected mosquitoes, provided monthly treatment is continued for at least twelve months. The final dose must be given within one month after the last exposure to mosquitoes.

When replacing another heartworm preventive product in a heartworm disease preventive program, the first dose of Valuheart must be given within one month of the last dose of the former medication.

Valuheart Heartworm tabs

Date: Feb 22, 2011

This is the second time I have purchased this product. It not only does what it's supposed to do in preventing heartworm but it is great on the hip-pocket too! A years supply costs less than a 1/3 of the annual heartworm injection price without the pain and possible side effects. Flea control, regular worming and vaccinating can all add up to a fair amount of money each year, so here's one area where you can protect your dog and save some money at the same time!

Does the Job

Date: Feb 15, 2011

If you want something specifically for heartworm treatment only, I've found this product to be sufficient. If you want something tasty for your dog, this product is certainly NOT for you. But if you don't want to spend big dollars on something that has the same result, this product does the job.
