Heartgard Plus heartworm treatment eliminates the tissue stages of heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis) and removes adult roundworms (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina) and hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, A. braziliense, Uncinaria stenocephala) from dogs.
Heartgard will control heartworm infections acquired in the previous 4 months provided that monthly treatment is continued for at least 12 consecutive months.
Dosage and Administration of Heartgard Plus
Give one Heartgard Plus chew each month, preferably on the same day or date. The Heartgard Plus cube may be offered by hand or added to the food. Dogs should be closely observed for several minutes following administration to make sure that the entire dose has been consumed.

Aside from the fact that my dogs are really happy taking this treatment (they think it is a treat...and respond accordingly whenever they hear the packet!!), I recently asked my vet about heartworm treatments when a dog has not been treated previously, or has been out of treatment for some time (for those who aren't aware, you can't just start giving your pet heartworm treatment if you haven't been treating them regularly, they are supposed to have a blood test first), and Heartgard is only product that is safe to give in this situation.

My dogs love the heartgard plus, they're very good at worming now and see it as a treat, i've also taken responsibilty for worming my mother and brother in laws dogs and they all love their chews once a month!!

The Girls think they're getting a treat every month when it's Heartworm tablet time. They chew it quickly and I know I'm protecting their health. Ordering was so easy and I was amazed at the speed of delivery. The price is an extra bonus especially when you have 2 dogs of different sizes who need different dosages.
